Saturday 30 April 2016

It has been a long time since i posted my last blog on Vaishno devi Pilgrimage but nevertheless wait always give sweet fruits. Today I am sharing my experience in "Lucknow:City of Nawabs"
Lucknow, capital of the largest state of India, Uttar Pradesh. Now after listening the word Capital don't start imaging Lucknow as other capital looks like.
The confusion starts as you arrive at Lucknow Station, as there are two station, one is old station and one is new known as Charbagh Station but don't worry they both are adjacent to each other. In local language they are known as "Choti Line" i.e. Old Station and "Badi Line" i.e Charbagh Station.
Lucknow is well connected with all major cities by train, airport and roadways so one don't have to worry about reaching Lucknow, Keep your all worries safe for dealing with the auto and taxi drivers there. Once you come out of the station avoid hiring private autos, straight away go to Prepaid taxi booth and hire taxi/auto from there. When i talk about Prepaid Taxi booth its understood that fare is fixed and there is no scope for showing your bargaining talent as happened with me. There are also public vehicles but if you are new to the city then i will suggest to hire private auto.
Now its time to rest for few hours in the hotel which you have booked and get yourself refreshed to enjoy the city of Nawabs.
Hotels you can Check-in at:
1. Hotel Clark, Hazratganj Area
2. Comfort inn, Gomti Nagar
3. Gaylord Hotel, Charbagh Station Area
I really want to list the hotels where you should never look for accomodation but it would not be good to mention it here so you can personally mail me to know the names of those hotels.
**If one will ask me i will suggest to stay near Hazratganj area only as this is the real beauty of Lucknow at night and moreover you will get easy conveyance to anywhere from Hazratganj.
As Lucknow is the Hub of education so i will also suggest some places for students where they can look for PG:
Suggested area for Students :
1. First of all look for PG near your college area only.
IET and Institute of Hotel Management: Aliganj area (Goel Chauraha and nearby area).
Average rent: 5000-6000 per month without AC (Including Breakfast and Dinner).
Lucknow University and BSIP: Students prefer Aliganj area as it is affordable, apart from Aliganj Students can look for accomodation in Hazratganj also but it is quite costly area so depending on your budget you can decide.
Hazratganj Average rent: Rs 9000-10000 per month including breakfast and dinner (Air cooler provided)
BBD university: You can get PG near Manas das Colony else you can opt for staying in college hostel also. Hazratganj is another option for comfortable stay, Direct buses to BBD are easily available from Hazratganj.
Apart from this there are many colleges in Lucknow but its not possible for me to mention all those but getting PG near college area is not a difficult task in Lucknow but my personal suggestion is to get some idea of the area before finalizing PG or flat.
So finally after a long discussion on places to stay i will now move on to the tourist places of Lucknow
Tourist Places of Lucknow
"History" the word describes all the tourist places but to know about the historical culture of India, Lucknow is the best place to Plan.
1. Bada Imambara
Direct autos are available from hazratganj, railway station, bus stand. You will have to walk 200-300m from auto stand. There is no need to hire private autos once you are inside the Lucknow city.
Auto fare: Rs 5-20 per passenger (depending on your route length)
Don't worry guyzz i am not going to talk about the history of this place. First of all keep your luggage in the locker room (left side adjacent to main gate) and now you can say Wow!! to the architecture of place. Remove your shoes before entering in the palace. Here you can have a guide who will be telling you all the history and special features of the place.
Guide fees: Rs 125/-
Trust me at the end you will be thanking the guide for all the facts told by him and don't forget to thank me as i have suggested you to go for guide.
Do's and Don't
1. Be with your group and follow the guide inside the maze (Bhool Bhulaiya) as it will be very dark inside.
2. Don't throw litter here and there, use dustbin provided by the maintainance committee.
3. Couples please avoid writing on the walls of the building.
4. Follow all the rules and regulations drafted by the maintainance board.
5. Enjoy
2. Chota Imambara
After coming out of the Baba Imambara you can take Horsecart locally known as Tanga. It will take you to Chota Imambara, Chicken cloth workshop, Ghanta-ghar.
There is no need to have guide here but if you really are interested in knowing the history then you can opt for the guide. Rest there is nothing to talk about this place except its history.
Do's and don't
Same as that in Bada Imambara.
3. Noori Darwaza
Just click the picture and praise the architecture of this gate and move on to ghanta ghar.
4. Ghanta Ghar
There is a beautiful park at ghanta ghar, you can sit here and relaxe for sometime.
5. Picture gallery
After walking few meters from Ghanta Ghar here comes the picture museum. It is one of the interesting place for history lovers.
6. Ambedkar Park
Before visiting this park i was in excitement of visiting one of the biggest parks of India. Before talking about this park let me clear i am not Anti-BSP. Once you enter this place, one thing you will see everywhere is Mayawati and her Elephants nothing else. I wonder what can be the motive behind constructing this useless place, a way to set her Identity or a way to increase her vote bank and then suddenly someone told that She want to be a history for fututre generations just as Mughals.
Do's and Don't
1. Carry atleast 3-4 water bottles with you as there is no water cooler inside the 107 acres land. There is only one Water Tap at the entrance and that too unfiltered and adjoining to Washrooms.
2. Carry eating stuff with you as you will not find a single canteen inside.
3. Avoid going there at noon time, the only beauty of this park is at night.
4. Apart from all its nugatory points, one thing that made me appreciate this place is the cleanliness maintained inside the place, kindly maintain this cleanliness.

Food paradise of Lucknow
1. Royal Chat, Hazratganj (especially Chat Basket)
2. Tunda Kababi
3. Bombay Pav Bhaji, Hazratganj
4. Lucknow Paradise, Kapoorthala Market
5. Lassi center, Near Sahara building
6. Lithi Chowka Point, near Oil India Limited office, Aliganj
Rabadi faluda, Lassi, Chat, All non veg dishes are some of the famous dishes of Lucknow.
Best Season to visit Lucknow: November-February
Overall if anyone want to know the cultural History of country, one must visit this place.

A Short Desciption of "Cochin"

This is just a short introduction of Cochin so kindly do not consider it a detailed one.
                                                                       "Desciption of Cochin"
Cochin is a port city rightly called the "Queen of the Arabian sea" located in the State of Kerala, also called "God's own Country", such mesmerizing title not only hints at its rich past but also of its present scenic beauty. Having a sea side location also adds to the cultural aroma which emanates from this place when you first land here. The myriad dimensions of this place urges you to be a part of it.
From its backwaters to its churches; from its beaches to its sanctuaries, every part of this "Queen" calls you to be a part of her crown. The tourist destinations of this place exceed any sort of counting but i will talk few of them. One should start from the Jewish Synagogue, the oldest of its kind in the commonwealth nations. The essence of this place will make you ponder upon Hitler's intention behind the "Holocaust". It should be followed by Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, a church originally bulit by Portuguese and elevated to Cathedral by Pope Paul IV in 1558. The willingdon Island should be next on the list. This place is heaven for animal lovers. Periyar wildlife Sanctuary famous for Elephants, bisons, monkeys, antelops along with Thattekad Bird sanctuaries famous for rare and exotic bird species will surely be able to attract your attention. The st. Francis Church is still vibrant with the Echos of European Colonial Struggles and is sure to give "Kicks" to the history geeks. The aroma from freshly fried fish on the beaches of Cochin will tickle your tastebud.
You must try out Lakshwadeep. It will consume some of your precious time in travelling but mark my words those travelling times will be worth it when you set foot on the thousand of Coral Polyps made into an island, that probably lived million of years ago.
Cochin is one of the best city in the country and the beauty of this city will not let you feel tired even for a single minute.

Vaishno Devi Pilgrimage

Today I am going to share my experience of vaishno devi pilgrimage and hope that my experience will help in making your trip much better and memorable.
Vaishno devi pilgrimage is located in katra, 50 km from Jammu Railway Station. Earlier, Jammu used to be the last station but now thanks to Indian railways there are direct trains to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Direct buses and taxis are also available to Katra from Jammu Railway Station that will cost you around Rs 1200-1300 (approx) and public buses will cost Rs 80/- per passenger.
SVDK (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra) Railway Station
This is the most beautiful and clean Station i have ever visited, you will not find even a single wrapper of toffee on the platform. Tourists travelling to SVDK can easily get Auto-rickshaw outside the station. Although the Auto fare is same for all autos but still you can try bargaining. Auto fare to katra market is Rs 100-140 (Max 5 passengers).

Plans for Next day
If you are having your train in evening or next day you can plan to visit Shivkhodi, patnitop, Nathatop else you can visit kal Kandoli Temple
Well, if you will take my suggestion plan for Shivkhodi.

A Trip to Amritsar

                                                             "Amritsar: City of Sikhs"
In this blog i will share my experience in Amritsar so that it may help you whenever you visit this place.
Amritsar is an important city in the state of Punjab. It is well connected by train, airport, roadways from all the major cities so one can easily reach Amritsar without any inconvenience.
I visited there by train. You will get auto-ricksaw outside the station but don't hesitate in bargaining with them. While riding in auto-ricksaw be ready for a roller coaster ride as roads of Amritsar are in very poor condition and Auto drivers don't know how to apply breaks.
I will suggest to take accomodation near golden temple as it looks beautiful at night and sitting near holy water late night gives an unforgettable experience. Hotel MG Residency is one of the best hotel near Golden temple.
One can cover all tourist places in Amritsar in maximium 2 days. Don't plan your trip for more than 2 days for Amritsar, you can spend your remaining days in Shimla which is not far from Amritsar.
Tourist Places
1. Jallianwala Bagh: It is very near to golden temple just 0.5 km so this is an another benefit of taking Hotel near golden temple. If you don't have interest in history then trust me this will be the most boring place for you and for those who find interest then spend good time in museum. There is no entry fees and you can also donate blood while coming out of the place.
Enjoy Amritsari Lassi in the shops adjacent to Jallianwala bagh.
2. Golden Temple: The real beauty of golden temple is at night time only. Don't even plan for darshan between 11 am to 8 pm as it is very crowded at that time. Best time of Darshan is in early morning (5 - 8 am) but if you are lazy beauty then you can prefer 10-11 pm. Enjoy Baba ka Langer there. Don't be in dilemma that they will serve you Kadai paneer, naan (as i was told) but i gurantee you will enjoy the devotion of devotees there.
Do's and Don't in Golden temple
1) Cover your head before going inside the temple premises, avoid purchasing clothes to cover head from vendors outside as you will get it in temple.
2) Drink water provided in the four corners of temple while sitting on floor (as advised to me by someone there).
3) Don't sit alongside of holywater with your legs in water.
4) Do enjoy golden fishes in the water
5) Don't waste food in langar,
Note: These are just few points which i learnt there , dn't worry noone will punish you if you will not follow these.
3. Wagha-Attari border
You can hire private/sharing battery cars or autos for Wagah border from outside the Jallianwala bagh and Golden temple. Private auto will cost you Rs 650-700(depending on bargaining) and sharing autos will cost you around Rs 100 per person, If one can afford private auto then must go for it as sharing autos will adjust 8-10 persons in one small auto.
On the way to Wagah border auto driver will take you to two temples i.e. Durgiana temple and Mata Lal devi Mandir. It takes around 80-90 minutes to reach Wagah border from Amritsar.
**** Each member should carry one water bottle with them as you will get seperated during checking and you will have to stand for 20-30 minutes for checking in hot day. If your luck is good you can also see any bollywood celebrity there, at my time Aishwarya Rai Bachan was present there.
Be ready to see the Patriotism of BSF soldiers.
4. Durgiana Temple
It is same as that of golden Temple. Remove both socks and shoes at the shoe counter. Walk slowly on wet floor there as it is very slippery.
Enjoy the beautiful carved ceilings of temple.
5. Mata Lal devi Mandir
What to say about this temple....Incredible!!!!. Well i am not going to share my experience in this temple but trust me you will definitely appreciate the beauty and construction of this temple.
**** Dont forget to take Prasad inside the temple as they serve tasty and different sweets so keep patience and stand in que for prasad.
There are many other tourist places in Amritsar but i haven't visited there as i was in no mood to visit more temples.
Important points for Tourists
1. Famous food stuff: Chole bhature, varieties of Stuffed Kulchaes with Nutrela, Amritsari Lassi with Malai (Golden temple Area Market). My personal suggestion avoid eating in big Hotels prefer small ones as they serve more tasty food.
2. Girls avoid wearing Shorts in Amritsar, prefer suits, jeans-top or any full dress.
3. You will not get Non-veg food and Alcohol anywhere near Golden Temple but you can take rickshaw and go to Bus stand (nearest) for all these.
4. As Amritsari suits are very famous but don't purchase until and unless you have knowledge of checking quality of clothes.
Overall it was an unforgettable stay in Amritsar. I really enjoyed there. I hope this much information will help you while planning for Amritsar.
